Koi is a Nikkei Cuisine restaurant with northern influence, where you can experiencie fresh local seagoods in an embrassing enviroment with welcoming service.

Koi's chef, Luis Romero Bellido

Luis spent his childhood in Trujillo where he got used to the northern flavors until he traveled to Lima to study Hotel Management and later Gastronomy. He worked as a chef in Peru as well as in the USA, Chile and Panama, always under the Nikkei vibe. In 2011 he opened Matzu in Iquique, Chile on behalf of some investors. In 2013 - together with his brother Marco - opened Koi Maki-Bar, Oku Sushi Express in 2014 and in 2018 Oku Sushi - Ramen, all of them in the city of Trujillo, serving Nikkei "Norteña" cuisine, always promoting respect for the input, the environment and the producer, thus constantly changing the menu according to "seasons". He won several gastronomic contests including "The Best Potato Recipe in the World" (2008-UNESCO) and the CIAC ExpoGourmet Panama 2011. Years later, in conjunction with a Chiclayan publishing house, he published a book called "Así se come en el Perú", which presents an alternative home cooking.


Since 2016, he represents our country in conjunction with PROMPERÚ and Marca Perú taking his Nikkei-Northern proposal to various parts of the world. He currently leads Koi Maki-Bar, a Nikkei-Northern restaurant, which provides a total experience to those who visit it, encompassing good service, atmosphere, technique and product. The menus or "seasons" are constantly changing in order to offer sustainable products, forming alliances with artisan suppliers of the region to always obtain the best quality according to seasonality. Currently, the nearly 50 employees have become the soul of the restaurant, being a family that helps to keep alive the dream of having a responsible restaurant (in every sense) in the city of Trujillo.

Our plates

To refer to Nikkei Cuisine is to refer to the correct balance and symphony that has the mixture of Peruvian and Japanese gastronomy; however, to talk about Koi Maki-Bar is to go a little further. Koi's cuisine is defined as Nikkei Norteña because in addition to this we add the seasoning of our region, that little extra punch that can only be found in the north of Peru.

To this we add the seasonality of both marine and agricultural products and we achieve not only a delicious cuisine, but also a responsible one.
